A golf ball’s stopping behavior depends on more than spin rate. Explore how spin, landing angle and green firmness combine to change the expected tendency after an approach shot lands.
Watch the ball arrive and release.
Change spin, descent angle, landing speed and green firmness. Replay the bounce and roll to compare the relative stopping tendency without inventing a measured rollout yardage.
Approach conditions
The same backspin can behave differently when the ball lands at a different angle or speed, or on a different green.
Bar length is a relative illustration, not yards of rollout.
Changing just one factor can alter the landing behavior.
Qualitative education only: these inputs are not measured values, and the displayed bounce and rollout are stylized. Actual stopping power also depends on ball construction, spin axis, approach speed, moisture, grain, slope and friction. Learn about spin and descent →
Spin is only part of stopping power
A steeper arrival can reduce forward bounce and rollout, all else equal. More backspin can also affect stopping behavior. Neither number guarantees that a shot will stay near its pitch mark: speed, surface moisture, slope, lie, ball and strike all matter.
The visual is a qualitative comparison, not a predicted number of feet of rollout. Use real measured shots and actual landing results for club selection or fitting.
